June 2019: Start to Finish Sew-In to Benefit the Stand Down Vets Program

Group Sew-In

Patsy Franco announced that this will be a start to finish sew-in challenge to make quilts for the Yavapai County Stand Down program. The Stand Down project targets veterans and their families who need housing assistance or are experiencing homelessness.

If you are unable to attend the sew-in challenge, we have included a printable copy of the pattern with instructions here.

What a happy surprise! Sunny Martin, Ashfork's Senior Class Sponsor, Naomi Montezuma, Library Assistant and 7 seniors visited our meeting to express their appreciation and gratitude for the Comfort Quilts our guild has given to them.

For July: prep for a Make-and-Take Project

The July program will be a sewing venue. The theme of this program is "Christmas in July." Members participating will make a 42"x 13" Christmas Tree wall hanging (table runner?). The pattern showed each section of the Christmas Tree to be a contrasting "holiday" themed fabric. Think of different patterns as well, i.e., holly and berries on a black background or a green and red plaid, gold and silver ornaments on a green background, and etc.

A sample pattern was passed around and the supplies list you will need to bring to the July meeting can be found below.

Members please bring your sewing machine and supplies, plus Christmas themed fabrics or lots of green fabric to share. Fat quarters are acceptable. Come and bring your "party" spirit along for a fun-filled afternoon of sewing and friendship!

Star - 8" x 8" gold fabric
Trunk - 10" x 10" fabric

TREE -

Section 1 - 5 x 14" fabric
Section 2 - 5 x 16" fabric
Section 3 - 5 x 18" fabric
Section 4 - 5 x 20" fabric
Section 5 - 5 x 22" fabric
Section 6 - 5 x 24" fabric
Section 7 - 5 x 26" fabric
Section 8 - 5 x 28" fabric
Section 9 - 5 x 30" fabric

15" x 42" very thin batting
One piece of Card Stock

Optional supplies - ball point bodkin, fabric glue, buttons, bells, miniature Christmas ornaments or swags.
