The challenge for 2018 - 2019 is going to be a mystery challenge. No one will be working on the same design because you will be creating your own from a set of elements determined by a questionnaire. You will be given a simple chart where you fill in answers based on your own likes. The answers will be tallied to see what the dominant answer is in each category.
You will create a small quilt (size is 36" x 36") that must include all of the chosen elements.: Color #1 blue (royal, navy, baby) Color #2 Aqua (aquamarine, turquoise, or teal) Symbol - star Plant - rose Quilt Block - Log Cabin Animal - Cat All elements must be identifiable or your quilt will not be judged. Quilts will be judged in two categories: #1, beg to avg and #2, avg+ to advanced. Scoring will be: Creativity = 1-5 pts. Composition = 1- 5 pts. Workmanship 1- 5 pts. (Total of 15 points possible)

Since our challenge last year was very simple due to the amount of work we put in on the quilt show, this year's challenge will be lots of fun and as challenging as you want it to be, just remember to have FUN!
The only MUST have: You MUST have either an Appliqued, Stitched, Painted, Drawn or a "Cheater" panel for your quilt center. Do you see where I'm going? Did this bring up lots of questions? As the name of this challenge implies, Embellish, Embellish, Embellish!!!!! You can use any materials for embellishment as in beads, mirrors, threads, paint, ink, etc. etc, etc. Any technique can be used as in machine, hand, crocheted, knitted, glued, etc, etc, etc. **********NO CONSTRAINTS************ No size constraints No color constraints No border constraints No fabric constraints No medium (materials) constraints Yes, you read it correctly, there are no constraints. Let me repeat this again, this challenge has no constraints! I’m trying something a little bit different this year as I would really like our new quilters to join us in this challenge. In an effort to make it easier on them and so they won’t feel the pressure of competing against seasoned quilters, they too can do the above any way they want. If our new quilters made less than 10 quilts, they will comprise a separate group and will only be judged with other quilters that have made less than 10 quilts. One last note, lets all make this FUN! Since our challenge last year was very simple due to the amount of work we put in on the quilt show, this year's challenge will be lots of fun and as challenging as you want it to be, just remember to have FUN! Your quilt has to be sandwiched, quilted and bound. Please do not forget your quilt label. SO REMEMBER: The only Must have is your center! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful quilts you come up with. The completion date is the February 2018 meeting. Marci Chairperson, Genny, had very few rules. The most important thing was to reduce the size of your quilt by 1/2 or 1/4. Also, of course, have fun with this challenge.

Chairperson Susan informed participating members that the primary "colors" for this challenge would be black and white plus one color of our choice. In addition, she had us pull a small paper shape out of a bag. If your shape was a star you must use that shape at least once on your wall hanging. This is to be a wall hanging pattern or design of our choice.
Chairperson Susan had a bag filled with many, many different colored crayons. Each member signed up to participate was to pull three crayons out of the bag. Those crayon colors must be used along with one more color in a wall hanging. She also mentioned that you might consider using buttons to embellish your quilt. Members could pick any pattern they like.
