Members Choice Winner at out December luncheon-Meeting Linda Ruiz
Such a beautiful representation of the winter season was the winner of the Member's Choice decorated by Lynda Ruiz. She won a flower basket of Fat Quarters donated by Seams Sew Right Quilt Store in Prescott. Congratulations! There were so many beautiful and varied tables at our December meeting that the attendees couldn't stop admiring them all. Thank you to all of the ladies and groups that decorated tables, it really made for a festive meeting. There were two each of each season and each one was amazing and beautiful.
In addition to all of the beautiful tables and gracious hostesses, Annette McCormick and her committee led us in a few games. There were several winners who each chose 2 fat quarters for the Name that Block game. Quilt Bingo took quite a bit of time before we started hearing BINGO shouted out. Winners each won 3 Fat Quarters. The birthday tickets were used to draw winners for a few tote bags that fold into a flower and also winners of the 4 table decorations made by Genny Applebee and Annette McCormick. Genny also made all of the ink pen flowers that the members were gifted with.
All of the Fat Quarter prizes were donated by Seams Sew Right in Prescott. Thank you for your generosity!

Trunk Show

Kay Wentworth entertained all of us at the November meeting with her energetic and humorous style and the many artist, creative and beautiful quilts she displayed. Kay has been working on different series for the past few years. Her series are comprised of a central theme that she uses to create many quilts within the series. Her goal is to create a quilt a month and to date has made over 500. She previously completed a series of quilts made of dresses. They were each unique and beautiful and amazing to see. She has been working on a series of Pagan Saints, each one of these is an animal with human characteristics that are something to see and the stories she has for each is delightful. Make sure you click on More... below to see all of the beautiful quilts she shared with the guild. It is something not to miss.

Disappearing Hourglass block/quilt
. . . The lovely ladies of the Stitch'n Sisters friendship group demonstrated and explained how the "magic" happens when you sew a plain Hourglass block and then turn that same block into the beautiful Disappearing Hourglass star block.
There were 10 tables with 2 sewers, 1 cutter, and 1 presser at each (and a few more). The goal was to sew as many 9 or 12 block Disappearing Hourglass quilt tops as possible. The completed quilt tops then were made into beautiful quilts and become a part of our community outreach effort; Comfort Quilts Program.

Stack & Whack -
~ Lucille Hurley . . . a quick demo to reveal the mystery - by Susan Gates-Harms |
Ever wonder how they make the kaleidoscope designs we see? Susan will show how to select a fabric for what you want to make; cutting the blocks; the easiest block that uses the smallest amount of fabric and how to put the block together. Should be lots of questions and, hopefully, answers.
More on Stack & Whack: see Bethany Reynolds' tutorial. . . |

Hometown Christmas Preparation
~ Lucille Hurley . . . These can be buttons, jewels, beads, bling of any type and of course some type of ribbon or cording for the hanger. We will be using one of the three techniques we learned at the July meeting (your choice). Lucille will bring the foundation blocks which will be 5 inch square. If you are not part of a mini group, please bring a machine and the list of materials above to make your block. Any member unable to attend the August meeting may make their block at home. Please use one of the July techniques and they must be 5 inches square. Lucille hopes that each member will make one block and she would love to have more than one so that the tree will look very festive. |

Stash Buster Technique Program
~hosted by our Sew Fine Quilters Friendship Group Table 1 presenters were Rose Marie Andreozzi and Annette McCormick. Ticker Tape and Mosaic techniques were shown and explained. This technique is great because it is "quilt as you go" when you sew the small pieces on. Read more. . . Table 2 presenters were Pat Smeaton and Mary Pat Lujan. The technique at this table was Flip and Stitch. This technique uses up all of your small scraps no matter what kind of fabric! Pat said she uses not only cottons, but also flannel and even t-shirt knits in the same quilt. They displayed a large quilt with more than 100 of these little blocks to showcase the technique. Read more. . . Table 3 presenters were Susan Joy Noyes and Joan Moss. This technique was using strips to make Dresden blades that are then stitched together to make flowers or even fences! You can make the blades almost any size, large or small. You can put a point at each end of the blade for a different look. You can add an extra (triangle) wedge between the blades to make a sunburst or pinwheel look as well. Read more. . . There were many Oohs and Ahs, questions, smiles and laughter. Our presenters did a wonderful job and I'm sure every member at the July meeting loved learning all about these varied techniques. |

Gigantic Sew-In
~ hosted by our Comfort Quilts Committee The comfort Quilt committee had kits made up for 3 different styles of quilts: Jelly roll, a 4+1 patch scrappy and another scrappy quilt style using rectangles. Tables were set up with 3 people working at their machines; each creating one of the 3 different patterns selected by the Comfort Quilt Committee. There were 15 sewing machines set up, an ironing station set up with 4 irons, and a cutting station. Carol Rabbitt brought her Accu-cut Go machine and Nancy Page took it over—she wants to get one now! Nancy must have cut about 50 strips with this tool. Carol Branch went home with a bag full of the strips! Great Friends, wonderful snacks, and lots of Comfort Quilt tops made at this workday meeting! |
