January:  Lumberyard Quilting & a Trunk Show

1/8/2019

Presented by Patty Bowers and Cheryl Coffman of A Quilter's Lumberyard
The program highlighted the Quilter's Lumberyard scrap management system's overall range of possibilities.

The ladies from A Quilter's Lumberyard are Patti and Cheryl and they presented us with so much information during our January meeting that anyone who had signed up for the Lumberyard Class became even more excited!  Those not signed up wished, I am sure, that they had.

Nevertheless, the trunk show was filled with construction of each quilt shown, and there were a lot of them.  Each quilt was constructed differently but used the same four (4) basic Lumberyard fabric pieces.  Emphasis was placed on how and where you placed those four basic pieces but all pieces are from your "lumberyard" of cut fabric pieces.  Using those blocks provides many options for color, value, placement and, of course, using your own imagination!
Those of us attending the class learned about:

  • cutting and organizing fabric scraps into "lumber."
  • using graph paper to design our own quilt "blueprint."
  • calculate fabric needs
  • package cut fabrics in convenient project bags
  • construct several 8-inch "lumberyard" blocks, basic and beyond
  • also were shown several containers to use when building up our stock of "lumber."

The program was entertaining, informative and very enjoyable and the class was wonderful.  Thank you to Patsy Franko for bring this to us and to Patty Bowers and Cheryl Coffman of A Quilter's Lumberyard!
